I made a vow

to do no harm

to help those

unable to fend

or protect themselves.

I promised myself

to be kind

to be strong

for those others

that remained weak.

In the end

that's been broken

that cherished promise

made in fervor

to be gentle.

Instead I've hurt

the one thing

I never thought

could be damaged

by own negligence
